Korozo Group has published its latest GRI-approved Sustainability Report, in which the company’s progress towards creating a safe, secure, and circular future for all is confirmed.
As a manufacturer of sustainable flexible packaging solutions that exports products to customers in more than 80 countries, Korozo’s role in creating sustainable and circular solutions has never been more important. To deliver this, the company continues to invest in cutting-edge technologies and develop industry-leading innovations. At the same time, Korozo is acutely aware that true sustainability transcends processes and products, and is prioritising culture, DE&I, and social responsibility as part of its sustainable growth agenda.
The Korozo Group 2023 Sustainability Report is centred around the three pillars of People, Packaging, and Planet. Each is an important focus for the group, with substantial improvements being made across the board over the reporting period. Improvements continue to be made, realised every day by colleagues and customers, and will be included in future reports. Recent examples include receiving an EcoVadis Silver Medal and achieving a CDP A rating.
Headline facts and figures from the Korozo Group 2023 Sustainability Report include:
Planet
- A 16% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions reported versus the previous year
- Electricity savings of 1,037,792.45 kWh and 21,176.56 sm³ of savings in natural gas from energy management and efficiency initiatives
- Water consumption and water discharge fell from more than 102,000 m³ to just over 94,000 m³, respectively
- 79% of non-hazardous waste generated from production was recycled
- 41% of hazardous waste generated from production was recycled
Packaging
- 64% of the total amount of packaging produced in 2023 was recyclable
- 1,400 metric tonnes of recycled material was used during production
- Designing and optimising all products to be recycle-ready by 2030
- Defined targets that clearly state the proportion of recycled content to be included in food and non-food packaging into the future
- Collaborating with partners to increase the availability and use of recycled content
- Partnering with household names and global brands to create impactful packaging that is sustainable by design, for confectionery and protein products to pet food and laundry detergent
People
- Safety culture transformation efforts, visible leadership commitment, ergonomics risk analyses, and other safety improvements reduced lost workdays by 67.2%, cut the number of accidents by 56.1%, and lowered the accident frequency rate by 65.6%, year-on-year
- All Korozo operating facilities in Turkey are certified according to ISO 45001 or other labour or human rights management standards
- More than 19,000 hours given over to OHS training and development
- Health screenings and health education for all personnel was provided
- Robust Diversity, Equality & Inclusion principles underpin a Human Rights Policy that unequivocally rejects all forms of discrimination
